Dr. Malis practices preventive medicine, employing strategies to prevent heart attacks and strokes in an attempt to avoid crisis management and the need for rehabilitative therapy. He emphasizes life-style modifications to minimize cardiovascular risk factors or exposure to known carcinogens. Dr. Malis practices proactively to assess genetic risk for cancer, age-appropriate screening tests and judicious use of cancer probes for monitoring. This strategy attempts to prevent or at least detect cancer in its earliest stages, allowing the greatest potential for therapeutic options.

Dr. Malis' additional interests include diagnostic dilemmas, hypertension, strategies for preserving memory and other cognitive functions, alternative therapies for rheumatic diseases, strategies to prevent and resolve diabetic peripheral vascular disease or coronary micro-vascular disease.

Prior to entering private practice in 1989, Dr. Malis was engaged in research for 20 years. He has investigated and published mechanisms of cellular injury in cardiovascular and neurovascular diseases while at the University of Pennsylvania, Cleveland Clinic Cardiovascular Research Foundation, Johns Hopkins Hospital and Medical School, and at Massachusetts General Hospital in collaboration with Harvard Medical School. These studies have been published in well-respected, peer-reviewed scientific and medical journals.
